7 Tips for Better Outdoor Living

We’re pretty lucky to live in the Bundaberg region, and there’s no better way to enjoy our great climate while you’re at home than being outside.

Here’s some simple tips from RE/MAX Precision’s Principal, Scott Mackey, on how you can enhance your outdoor living space for maximum entertainment value… while boosting your property value at the same time!

1. The days are gone of only timber decking says Scott. There are now more options than ever when choosing a deck to create the perfect outdoor zone. Cheaper alternatives are mod-wood which is made from recycled plastic but a more durable option is HardieDeck which is made from fibre cement boards.

2. Scott says a well-designed fire pit can be a clever idea for entertaining all year round especially in the cooler months coming up.

3. Creating an outside sitting room is easier than you think! Scott says a well-placed pergola with screens creates an impressive outdoor room which doesn’t include a full house extension. Create a roof covering and shade by growing a creeper vine like jasmine.

4. Add a relaxed vibe to an alfresco space with a servery bench to the outside of the window. It creates a practical and fun connection between outdoor and indoor spaces. This is also a great way to feed hungry kids in the afternoon without interrupting their outside play time, or for other occasions just add a bucket of ice, drinks and glassware to use as an alfresco bar.

5. Help create a welcoming space for visitors with a little personal touch by using soft furnishings like pillows, throws and rugs. Make sure you choose items suitable for the outdoors and don’t leave them sitting out in the weather.

6. With a few coats of paving paint, your tired looking concrete can be transformed. You can have it tinted any colour you want and it’s a quick and cost effective technique. For the most dramatic result paint around the pool, out the back, on the old porch and driveways, says Scott.

7. Adding some pot plants or climbers to your alfresco area is a must. They bring colour, texture and fragrance into the space. Don’t be afraid to combine some real plants with fake ones.

We hope you enjoy these tips. Not only can they add value to your day-to-day living, but also to your property’s price.
