Moving house is an exciting time, but it can also be a stressful experience for the unprepared.

Once your contract has become unconditional, nominate a moving date
Start listing incoming mail and let them know of your 'change of address'
Decide what you are keeping, selling and giving away
Start to collect large packing materials including, sturdy cardboard boxes and newspaper
Determine the items you want to pack yourself. Prior to packing, confirm your moving company's insurance policy for self-packed items
Start to pack items not frequently used in your household
Prepare a comprehensive inventory and have it with you
Collect and return anything outstanding (eg: videos, dry cleaning, library books)
Close or transfer club memberships (eg: gym, video store)
Consider pet minding for moving day
List the basic essentials you'll need handy on moving day include:
Toilet paper and tissues

Disposable plates and cups

Arrange an appointment with your Sales Associate for a pre-settlement
inspection of your new property
Note the position and number of telephone outlets and power points

Organize disconnection and connection dates for gas, electricity, phone and
transfer of accounts
Supervise placement of furniture and cartons to save you moving them again
Ensure the telephone, electricity and gas are connected
Check you have hot and cold running water
Prioritise unpacking as this can take several days. Start with food items and make sufficient beds
Put all packing material into one box, this will you to flatten all the boxes and return them to the removalist
When moving or changing address, it is mandatory to notify certain organisations. These include the Electoral Office, Social Security and Queensland Transport. Vehicle registration and drivers license change of address must be notified within seven days.
